The Internet of Things (IoT) presents opportunities for innovation in domains ranging from smart homes to smart cities. Yet, many IoT devices ship with security flaws that put citizens and consumers at risk, which creates broad issues surrounding the privacy, security, and robustness of IoT. Additionally, the proliferation of IoT devices allows device vendors to collect—and potentially share—an unprecedented amount of data about consumers.
Solutions to these emerging challenges around IoT will require input and collaboration from technologists and policymakers. The goal of this program is to provide privacy experts with a deeper understanding of the broader legal environment in Europe. Who can bring an action, which courts are involved, how do the various national and Europe wide systems interact? We will seek to understand the issues and challenges of privacy law in the EU context. The program will not focus on the specifics of the GDPR, but rather the broader context of EU law, politics and policy that will help privacy and policy leaders of US multi-nationals better understand our partners across the Atlantic.
The European Privacy Association (EPA) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) webinars will be held throughout the year and are aimed at all professionals interested in the regulation of data protection. Each webinar will be chaired by Dr. Paolo Balboni, President and Noriswadi Ismail, Scientific Director and members of our Scientific Committee and will last for 60 minutes, ending with a Q&A session.The webinars will focus on compliance, governance, business controls and operational aspects in relation to the forthcoming GDPR relevant for all companies doing business in Europe. The GDPR debate and discussion have dominated the European marketplace for the past 4 years. Organisations and stakeholders have 2 years to operationalise their GDPR readiness programme to avoid non-compliance enforcement actions from national Data Protection Authorities.NB: If you weren’t able to sign up before the first webinar it is still possible to sign up for the series. Deepen your knowledge & expand your portfolio- become a EuroPriSe Privacy Expert!
The 2+ day workshop* will introduce you to the EuroPriSe certification scheme: You will learn about EuroPriSe criteria and procedures and train how to specify a target of evaluation (ToE) and to write a EuroPriSe evaluation report. In addition, you will start to work on the training evaluation which is one important precondition for being admitted as EuroPriSe Expert.
The workshop is a combination of classroom and group work and involves practical examples. You will deal with privacy use cases to apply what you have learned and to benefit from the professional exchange with other workshop participants.

Join us for this virtual discussion to hear an accountability approach for attaining and maintaining GDPR compliance through the “appropriate technical and organizational measures” required by Article 24. Help your organization get a running start by: understanding what accountability infrastructure is in place, identifying the gaps needing remediation, creating strategies for prioritizing; and then knowing how to resource activities that will enable and maintain GDPR compliance.
