The European Privacy Association (EPA) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) webinars will be held throughout the year and are aimed at all professionals interested in the regulation of data protection. Each webinar will be chaired by Dr. Paolo Balboni, President and Noriswadi Ismail, Scientific Director and members of our Scientific Committee and will last for 60 minutes, ending with a Q&A session.The webinars will focus on compliance, governance, business controls and operational aspects in relation to the forthcoming GDPR relevant for all companies doing business in Europe. The GDPR debate and discussion have dominated the European marketplace for the past 4 years. Organisations and stakeholders have 2 years to operationalise their GDPR readiness programme to avoid non-compliance enforcement actions from national Data Protection Authorities.NB: If you weren’t able to sign up before the first webinar it is still possible to sign up for the series. The capture and consolidation of these data permit the construction of massive databases, the detailed profiling of individual voters and the “micro-targeting” of precise messages to increasingly refined segments of the electorate. With reference to the 2016 US Presidential election, Colin Bennett will discuss recent trends in “voter surveillance”, assess its effectiveness and consider the larger implications for privacy, civil liberties and other democratic values

Data privacy and security issues, laws and regulations are changing at a rapid pace around the world. In the last 10 years especially, new laws and regulations around privacy or security have increased on all continents.

We’ve invited an esteemed group of guest speakers to share their perspectives on privacy in a country or region they know well. These include: Lydia de la Torre, Elena Elkina, Professor Anna Han, Tarun Krishnakumar, Mark Webber, and Paola Zeni.
As per our standard format, the first hour will be devoted to speakers and Q&A, followed by a second hour for informal networking and small group discussions to give speakers and attendees a chance to talk to each other.
For those who can’t attend in person, we hope to live stream and record the event and will share those details through our email distribution list.
This year co-located with Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency in Machine Learning and Workshop on Data and Algorithmic Transparency.

This event series, which will be held at Columbia University, covers a wide range of topics and includes several interesting workshops. Check out the tentative program here.
DLA Piper together with Privacy Laws & Businessare pleased to invite you to attend the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Data Protection Officer Training Academy.
The DPO Training Academy will provide practical, interactive guidance on how to establish and manage compliance as a DPO, consistent with the many requirements of the GDPR.
Content has been developed by DLA Piper, in collaboration with Privacy Laws & Business, the leading international data protection/privacy laws information service.
Upon completion, participants will be equipped with knowledge of the relevant legal, technical and operational skills needed to successfully fulfill the DPO role. Participants will also receive a comprehensive toolkit of supporting guidance notes and template documents to use in this role. A certificate of attendance will be issued on completion of the course.
The Data Transparency Lab is hosting a 12-hour-long hack day, co-located with the DTL Conferences. The main topic of this hack day is “User Education on Privacy and Transparency”. If you have any ideas for helping users understand why they should care about privacy, you shouldn’t miss this event!
We are looking for:
Apps (mobile app, browser plugin, web site, etc.) that let users understand the privacy implications of their actions
Impactful visualizations that raise awareness on privacy/transparency and make useful data accessible
Educational material (websites, videos, comics, etc.) that can be used in an innovative way to communicate adequately the need for privacy and transparency

This series of three roundtables for peer group exchange will focus on managing the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance process. Regulators and policy makers will not be invited to these roundtables.
Whatever happens with Brexit, your organisation will continue to trade with some of the 30 countries in the European Economic Area and you need to ensure that your organisation is complying with the GDPR.
The emphasis will be on sharing experience to help you organise and manage the process rather than giving legal advice on the impact of the GDPR.*
The roundtables will be hosted by companies and take place in London in November 2016 and January and March 2017. Hosts will report on progress in their organisations. In addition, you should expect to discuss your plans with the group. Everyone learns and benefits from this participatory process.
The first roundtable will be hosted by Mark Keddie, Chief Privacy Officer, BT Group on 23 November at its office near St. Pauls in central London.
The second roundtable will be hosted by Ellis Parry, Global Lead – Data Privacy, BP Legal, BP Oil International Ltd on 19 January 2017 at its office in Canary Wharf, London
The third roundtable will be hosted by Google, London, in the second half of March 2017 in London. Offers to host in March, together with your proposed dates, should be e-mailed to [email protected]
Each group will be limited to 25 people to facilitate discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
A summary will be prepared after each session by Privacy Laws & Business on a non-attributable basis for distribution to the group.
The programme is below but everyone who registers will be able to suggest amendments within the scope of each session to help ensure that the programme is closely aligned with your needs.

Each session qualifies for 3 CPD hours.
Every Privacy Laws & Business event qualifies for accredited CPD hours for the purposes of the England and Wales Solicitors Regulation Authority’s requirements. Please quote AQJ/PLBU when applying for the points with the SRA.
