Demonstrating Compliance to Regulators @ Online Event
Sep 14 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Demonstrating Compliance to Regulators @ Online Event

What does it mean to demonstrate compliance under the GDPR? What kind of documentation is expected from an organisation to show that they meet their legal requirements? Nymity is midway through a 3-year project on demonstrating compliance to regulators to help provide more clarity on this issue, as published in a recent paper Demonstrating Compliance to Regulators. In a series of workshops with companies and data protection authorities and several conference sessions, we discuss a structured approach to ensure your documentation is in order, should you be subject to an audit, investigation or inspection. In addition, we provide you with an up-to-date overview of the developments regarding certification of data protection compliance. Can this new option provided by the GDPR become a success, and if so, under what conditions?

During this webinar, you will hear about our learnings to date, as well as about the questions that are still up for discussion.

Responsible Openness: What You Need To Know To Get Started Today – RDA Event September 18th @ Montréal
Sep 18 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Responsible Openness: What You Need To Know To Get Started Today – RDA Event September 18th @ Montréal | Montréal | Québec | Canada

Research projects handling data come under scrutiny when they seek to obtain funding, with the principal investigator asked to present a responsible data management plan. This inevitably raises a number of questions concerning the privacy, security, property, and integrity of data. These concerns lie in the realm of law and ethics, and the most brilliant PIs find themselves ill equipped when confronted to them.

With the objective to promote Open Data sharing, with a particular focus on Open Research Data, the event aims to accomplish three objectives:

  1. Inform about issues related to data privacy, security, and intellectual property.
  2. Promote responsible Open Data sharing through legal and ethical considerations.
  3. Propose a framework for a responsible data management plan (DMP) for research.

A panel of four legal scholars will use knowledge mobilization strategies to provide an overview of the legal considerations surrounding data use, focusing on how heeding to privacy, security, intellectual property, and ethical concerns can promote Open Data sharing.

The panel will be animated by a data science expert who will elaborate on strategies to construct a robust data management plan and summarily expose a number of existing technologies that can be utilized by researchers to ensure adherence to the normativity of Open Research Data.

Throughout the seminar, participants will become familiar with the legal and ethical landscape of research data, understand the advantages of leveraging constraints into responsible open data streams, and develop a toolset to assist them in handling data collected, generated, used or shared in their own endeavors, in compliance with the principles and values of Open Research Data.

Leverage your GDPR compliance efforts to support BCRs @ Online Event
Sep 20 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Leverage your GDPR compliance efforts to support BCRs @ Online Event
Accountability is one of the key pillars of the GDPR. Organisations are to ensure their privacy program meets the legal requirements and need to be able to demonstrate this upon request. Those organisations already working with Binding Corporate Rules (now codified in Article 47 GDPR), are already familiar with the need to be accountable, if they want to be able to transfer data between all branches and establishments of their group. If you meet the requirements for BCRs, you are likely on track to meet your GDPR requirements. Vice versa, if you meet your GDPR requirements, a lot of the preparations for BCRs will likely be done already.

This webinar will address the differences between GDPR obligations and BCR obligations to understand the necessary investment in privacy management required to apply for BCRs. Also, this webinar will speak to the advantages of BCRs as a data transfer mechanism, helping you to make the assessment if BCRs are useful for your organisation. Finally, we will discuss if and how BCRs could become a certification mechanism under Article 42 GDPR.
